Description

Serialnumber: 17584 - model "Telemann"

The development of the harpsichord in the 20th century was marked by a renewed interest in historical instruments and their music. The harpsichord enjoyed a renaissance in the 20th century after being pushed into the background in favour of the modern piano in the 19th century. In the early years of the 20th century, musicians and instrument makers became interested in the authentic performance of early music. Historical performance became an important theme, and musicians strived to perform the music as it was intended at the time it was written. This led to an increased interest in the harpsichord.

The harpsichord described here dates from 1949 and was made by Neupert in Bamberg. It is perfectly preserved and all parts are original and playable. The case is made of dark walnut with an open bottom and stands on 3 decorated legs. The inner lid is veneered with light wood. The harpsichord has 1 manual with 2 rows of jumpers (so-called “Troho jumpers” – Trolon plastic-wood jacks), which consist of a wooden core and framed with plastic on each side. The quills are made of leather, two registers (8′ and 4′) and a lute slide for the 8′ register, which is divided. The compass is 4 ½ octaves (CC – f3). The keyboard is decorated with plastic coverings and the soundboard has a wooden rose to strengthen the sound.

The sound of the instrument is very clear and strong. However, it must be clearly stated here that the sound is not at all comparable with a historical harpsichord. It is a completely new instrument due to its modern construction, which only has the sound generation in common with the old harpsichords. In comparison to instruments built from the 1960s and 1970s, however, the sound is many times more convincing and beautiful.
